In our continuing search for more affordable and exciting, single family living spaces, we would like to present a vintage selection of cottage style “Smaller, Smarter” home designs from deep within our design database. Open and efficient, green and traditional, quaint and inviting; these designs meet all the needs for living in these modern times.

The plans in this group of designs are all based upon a set of sound design principals. On the exterior, simple traditional shapes were selected for their good proportions and ease of framing. They can be designed and built simple and rustic or dressed up with our branded CCH finish of trim details for more traditional curb appeal.

All have undercut entryways and wood sheds which provide shelter, interest, friendly scale and are easily enclosed for winter protection. Once inside, you will discover flexible, open floor plans with few partitions and compact central stairs requiring minimum space for circulation on both upper and lower floors. Kitchens and baths have been stacked for efficient plumbing and steep roof pitches make the most of usable space in the upper level. Carefully located windows and doors flood the open interiors with plentiful light and ventilation.

When sited correctly and fitted with night time window protection, these houses become efficient and comfortable passive solar collectors, because of their open plans, high insulation values, carefully planned glass location and compact size. We make this new selection of designs available with two popular framing options; a traditional timer framed, post and beam structure or conventional stick framing/engineered lumber.
