The Early Saltbox One

This modified version of our standard Boston Saltbox design differs in several areas from the original. The change to a five window front elevation, primitive exterior detailing and a reduced center chimney mass all aid in reducing construction costs...Read More

Careful attention has been given to scale and proportions of the front entry door to complete an air of simple elegance. From the side elevation, this home shows its classic saltbox form. On this elevation, I have added an enclosed connector with farmer’s porch and a two car carriage shed garaged to stretch the house out, increase its mass and create a greater presence on the site. The addition of the heated mudroom connector and heated access to the bonus room over the garage make this home ideal for a growing family. These popular features combine to make the “new” Boston a cost-effective choice for those who desire a classic saltbox with modest and authentic appeal.

To maintain its air of authenticity, we suggest a monochromatic paint or heavy bodied stain for the exterior of the main house. The roof should be done with sawn cedar shingles or an architectural asphalt shingle in a slate color. With the change in siding on the breezeway and carriage shed you have two finish options. You can use the same color scheme as the main house or you can use contrasting colors. I would suggest a dark black-brown stain to imitate weathered barn board and the same "colonial" color for the window sash and doors.
